All the little angels rise up, rise up...

So Puppy... is ok. Alive, and with a worse week than I've had by a long shot, and I feel incredibly sympathetic and at the same time just slightly glad because dammit, if I'm going to be worrying about someone they had better be earning it.

Just finished reading "Night Watch", a Pratchett book, one of the Discworld ones. I borrowed it from Rhia. It... ehh. Like most of his books, particularly the latest Discworld ones, it leaves you smiling. And thinking. Rhia and Cate and I have talked about him and his books a few times and each of us has a favorite or three that we feel are particularly important to us. I'm not alone in feeling like all his works are something close to holy writ, though. He... he reaches something, deep, shadowed, something so instinctive you perhaps didn't need to be taught it, he shows you what it is and he lets you decide on your own whether it's good or bad, and what to do about it. His books, intended as nothing but fiction, approach philosophical perfection.

He's a good author, to put it another way.

One of the best.

I've actually been thinking quite a bit about books; Angel's going to be up here tomorrow, to spend a week-ish, and I fully intend to send her back with at least one or two books to read. Haven't settled on which ones, as we're loaning Rhia "The Long Run" and I can't find my copy of "The Last Dancer" and I think the copy of "Small Gods" floating around the house is Rhia's, but I'll sort it out eventually. Wish I'd sent more with Torian.

Alex and Cleo are squabbling; they're both getting pretty old, for hamsters. I need another hamster wheel, and dammit, some female hamsters, and I need to remember to save enough out of the upcoming paycheck to buy Kaa something nice and plump to eat, and we need soda, and tuna, and pasta, and canned soup, and ramen, and more toilet paper, and my meds refilled soon, which means I need to schedule an appointment or three soon, which will require paying for too, and it just seems like the list never ends. *sigh* Growing up has some bits about it that I really don't like.
