A Few Good Comics

Hurting REALLY sucks. And for the record, if you haven't read my last entry then let me also add that allergies, lack of snack food, small children, AND hurting sucks even more.

Err.

Oh, yeah. I was going to post links to various comics online that I try to keep up with, mostly because I can but also because I think y'all would get a kick out of some of them.

Before I dive straight into the mass that is my Fav Comics, I'm going to leave you with a few other links that are as funny as comics, if not on occasion more so. Let me stress that, like the comics, these do require that you HAVE a sense of humor. If you don't, you are likely to be offended. A lot. And they are prob'ly writing about you. *snerk*

These first three are groups at LiveJournal and REALLY worth a few minutes of your time: Mock The Stupid, Metaquotes, and Customers Suck.

A fourth LiveJournal worth reading is The Book Of The Gear, a fictional account by an extremely funny author who paints some of the most kickass art to accompany her work (and a lot more of it that stands on its own, and MUST be seen to be believed... trust me on this, it's worth looking). Other good journalists and bloggers humorwise definitely include Not-A-Finger, and I'll add more to this list as soon as I think of them, promise!

For those of you with speakers and a sense of humor, 2, The Ranting Gryphon is a wonderful way to kill a bit of time. Each rant is short enough to keep from dragging but chock-full of... well... *grins* ...Gryphon. Just go listen, kk? Along a similar line, but visual as well, are the excellent flash cartoons put out by Ill Will Press. The entire archive, hosted by the Friends of Foamy, can be found here, and is so VERY worth your time.

Liked the flash comics and just can't get enough? You can find more great flashtoons over at Making Fiends, a series involving two demented little girls as well as links to Muffins and other flashy goodness by the same author. If you want more visuals in general, check out VideoSift, a site chock full of funny, interesting, educational, bizarre, and otherwise amusing videos. Some of them are not-so-funny, either because they are serious or because they were trying too hard to BE funny, but for the most part they're just very amusing. My personal favorite? Mahna Mahna, of course.

If your taste runs more to a bit of true insanity, there's a lovely page full of Disturbing Search Requests - things people have googled for, posted by the owners of the poor weblogs who mistakenly got looked at because of such searches. Not quite sure what I mean, or why this is funny? Just go look. Seriously. *still giggles every time she sees it*

You might also want to check out the humor found at Rinkworks - click on the links labeled 'Computer Stupidities' and 'things people said' if you really want to be amused. Or for a taste of Bad English stop by Engrish.com, home to all things Not Quite Right.

...another pawful of amusement was found through Mock_The_Stupid: Baby Names - a site dedicated to the Worst of the Worst from assorted Baby Names BBS.

For those of you who don't know what a Furre is, or what yiffing means... or if you just want to laugh your head off... check out this article on Furcadia. *grin* While we're on the subject of such things, Open-Source Kama Sutra, or the Linux Sex Manuel, is freaking great; there are also quite a few other funny sex-related links found at the bottom of the page, including very bad masturbation ideas and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Clit.

bash.org's Top 50 - browse around for the other zillion-and-more quotes stolen from chatlogs and IRC. This one isn't a comic - it's a text site. Go and click on random or the top 50-100 link above and read. *grin* Trust me. You need to see this stuff

Caleb insists, as he is looking over my shoulder during this latest edit, that I should add pointlesswasteoftime.com to the list - I can't vouch for it myself yet as I haven't looked at it yet but apparently it is Good Things. *nod* I suspect this is where I'll be killing time later tomorrow while he's at work. *grins* So, much yay, as usually I'm bored stiff.

Now, on to the comics! Keep in mind that as I am neither God nor the comic artists' Signifigant Other, I can't say how long these lovelies will keep running; I CAN say that I try not to link to any comic that hasn't been around long enough to build up a decent archive and convince me they're likely to keep going. Also, some of the comics just aren't work-safe; Ghastly and Flem would be two prime examples but if you work with easily-offended people you might want to skip Red Meat, Chopping Block, Perry Bible Fellowship, and maybe even Boy Meets Boy. Check 'em out at home, see what you think, just don't blame me if you DO read them at work and get in trouble for it. >.> Anyway! Comics!

Sluggy Freelance
Schlock Mercenary... You will learn the joys of an ominoushummmm...
Metroid - By the creator of Bob and George, this is another sprite comic that is... heh, to say it's demented is something of an understatement. Truly great humor, particularly if you've ever played the Metroid games.
Ctrl-Alt-Del - No explaining here, go read for yourself.
*-Bit Theatre - Nuklearpower's take on the original Final Fantasy, much niftiness.
RPG-World (and if you want an explination for this, go find it yourself)
Freefall This comic is one of my all-time favorites Ever. Anywhere. Seriously, read this one. *grin* Doggie!
College Roomies From Hell - Yes, the artwork starts out rough, but this is a damn good strip that has been going strong for several years now.
Something Positive ...don't be fooled by the name. Do read.
Red Meat - this is one of a VERY few cut-and-paste comics that I adore. It's demented, perverse, wacked-out, strange, not for the easily-offended, and a delight to read.
Chopping Block - A lovely little one-panel strip about a sociopath.
The Class Menagerie - Furres as college students, fun but not overly complicated.
Ubersoft.net - Standing On The Necks Of Giants
Bob And George - if you've played the megaman games and don't mind sprite comics, check these guys out. They make megaman INTERESTING.
Jake The Rake - a poly-affirmative comic that kicks ass (and may not be there, it goes down occasionally, sorry).
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Hilarious, if a bit sketchy on the art side of things. Check out this one first, then start from the beginning. Geekalicious!
Sinfest - Religion, sex, beat poetry, and enough humor to satisfy anyone's comic needs.
Clan Of The Cats - A comic with an actual, even reasonable, storyline. Be amazed.
Penny Arcade - A long-time favorite of gaming geeks everywhere.
Ghastly - tentacle monsters and the women who love them. Oh, and cake.
Oh My Gods! - Not for the overly-religious folks. For the rest of us? YEAH. *giggles*
Real Life - Gamer humor abounds without becoming too overdone in this lovely bit of dementia. Also, I want the Master Sword. *blinkblink*
Questionable Content - Demented indie and emo humor with a touch of goth. Oh, and the teensy adorable robot-thing. Of DOOM.
MegaTokyo - Can you say 'sad girls in snow'? So can Piro. *poings*
Dork Tower - A geek tradition, this comic is a must for D&D fans.
Ozzie and Millie - Anthro characters with class. And a dimentional portal in the couch. This is a must-read if you enjoy Keven and Kell or Dominic Deegan. If you don't know what those are, may god have pity on your soul.
You Damn Kids - Irreverent, unabashed, and hilarious.
The Perry Bible Fellowship - Ok, ignore the name. Trust me on this. And this is NOT, btw, a comic for the easily-disturbed, but damn it's funny in spots. Each strip is a standalone, skip around a bit through the archive, you won't regret it. Much.
Count Your Sheep - Almost painfully cute, takes a little bit to get into but it's well worth it.
Arcana (seriously depressed already only, please)
Boy Meets Boy - A highly cute yaoi-ish comic... it starts out odd but both art and writing get a LOT better. Read the first 20 strips, you'll be hooked. And yes, just to warn you, it DOES contain two men who sleep with eachother. Twice.
El Goonish Shive - honestly, as I'm still in the middle of this one I can't say much. Mostly because I'm laughing too hard.
Flem - this one will take all of 3-4 strips to have you hooked. It is AMAZING. It's also something that prob'ly shouldn't be shown to ten-year-olds.
Mac Hall - one of the best strips for content AND artwork!
Queen Of Wands
Something Positive ...Choo Choo Bear! (Yes, this one is in here twice. GO READ IT ALREADY.)
The Devil's Panties and Geebas On Parade - niftiness and LARP humor. *dances*
Two Lumps - the tale of two cats, done by J. Grant (of Flem! fame) and his girlfriend.
GPF (or General Protection Fault)... heh. Geek humor and a talking slime mold. Trust me, it's worth reading. Either that or they're really improving on the whole subliminal mind-control thing. *blink*
Dominic Deegan: Oracle For Hire! One of a very few comics without the huge archive I normally insist on.

Now that I've bombarded you with a few of my favorites I'm gonna let this entry sit for a while and try to find some of the others I'm obsessed with. Eventually I'm hoping there will be a long enough list to make this entry worth referring to... or at least worthy of a direct link from my journal, much like the Character List that I need to put a link of on my pages again. 'Scuse me.

*pads off quickly and returns with a laptop, settling back on her featherbed cusion and typing frantically*

EDIT Ok, at this point there's a whopping LOT of comics (and a few other things) on the list, and now what I really need to do is alphabetize them. *twitch* Someday. Until then, this is fast becoming more for my own reference than anything else, as I still come here to remember which comics to check, and to find sources of amusement when bored. By all means, if you know of a good comic strip, recommend it! I'm always looking for more things to read, particularly if they are good furre comics, interestingly-gendered comics, or comics involving tentacle monsters.
