Jax's Diner

I am sitting
in the starbucks
at a table
near the window

I am waiting
as I log in
for my pet
to fetch my coffee

And he filled it
only halfway
and before
I even argue

He is looking
o'r my shoulder
at somebody
texting me

"It is always
nice to see her"
says the boy
behind my shoulder

Meaning nothing
just a greeting
and I pass it
on, it's ok

And I look
the other way
as they are texting
their hellos and

I'm pretending
not to see them
and instead
I check my mail

When I open
up my inbox
there's a story
of an actor

who had died
while he was drinking
it was no one
I had heard of

And I'm turning
to my best friends' blogs
and looking
for a meta

when I'm feeling
someone watching me
and so
I raise my head

There's a woman
on the outside
looking inside
Does she see us?

No she does not
really see us
'cause she sees
her own reflection

And my pets are
laughing, quiet,
while she's hitching
up her skirt

And while she's
straightening her stockings
they're giggling
so rude

Oh this rain
it will continue
through the morning
as I'm listening

To the chatter of my loved ones
I am thinking
of your voice...
