Snow Fell, I Caught It

*stumbles sleepily into view*

...actually, it's just tiredly. 'Sleepily' would give the false impression that I actually have some hope of sleeping soon, or that my body at least wanted to sleep. Instead, damn near 8:00 in the morning, it's still dead tired but wide awake. I've tried lying still in the darkness for an hour, I took a warm shower, I've had sips of water, nothing seems to help. Wide F'ing Awake.

When it hits 8:00 proper I will assume that my mother is awake; also that if it's running, my clinic is open for business. Neither of these are really useful assumptions as people are sleeping out in the living room (including one of the monsters) and in here so a phone conversation just now would get me bitched at. Still, I need to call both - my mom tried to get in touch with me at some ungodly hour earlier, by which I mean ANY hour, and I still haven't gotten a double-check on my appointment date. I have no idea what my mom wants; Becca talked to her the second time she called and she wouldn't leave a message, wouldn't explain, just said that I should call her.

Yeah, leaves me a bit nervous. Can't imagine why. *blinks*

The snow's now got a solid sheet of ice under it and a crust of ice on top of it. The City Of Portland is officially closed as of noon yesterday, or so our mayor apparently announced. Will Ryan actually have to go into work anyway? Not sure. He can't really even walk there safely in this weather, and since most of the other employees might not be able to get there either you'd think they would just shut down for the day... but then, tech support is supposed to always be there when you call. *twitch*

All night there's been enough snow that the city lights reflected up to the clouds and back down again, keeping the world nearly as bright as if it were day. Russ shoveled the walkway twice, so there's no high snow crust on it, just the nifty ice-skatable path that was once the path from the door to the driveway. Condensation on the windowpanes is freezing to the glass. In some ways it's actually rather peaceful... quiet, calm, everything looking somehow more serene than usual. Still. Silent.

...and then Ryan snores, a car honks, one of the kids makes noise in the other room, there's music coming in from somewhere, and I am reminded once again that the world never really sleeps and that unless I get my paws on more earplugs, neither will I. *sigh*

Ryan's promised to go in to the doctor with me; this is a VERY good thing, as I'd already stated. Maybe with a secondary witness and proof that no, I AM trying, and it IS as bad as I say, she'll be inclined to try other methods. Don't know what, but there's got to be something.

I'm going to go check email.
