...but I won't be worried long...

I want to build a universe for you. The sun will be molten copper, never too bright in the mornings and always setting just in time for us to watch the colorshow. The stars will be in new patterns each night, a dance far faster yet just as certain and graceful as the ones this sky plays out. There will be five moons and a night when all of them are visible will feel like a full moon on a snowfall, brilliant and pure and somehow almost sacred. There will be rivers, deep and warm when you want to swim, cool and crisp water when you are thirsty, and a million species of little glowing fish that change the rush of liquid to our very own milky way at night.

We will have a house, a mansion, a castle, a tiny shack. Day to day it will change and shift, being what we want and what we need, always with enough room to keep us from ever feeling cramped and always small enough to keep us connected. There will be a tub big enough to go swimming in. There will be a library with every book ever written, from the beginning of time to the very moment you step inside the doors, always growing. If you close your eyes and listen you can hear new books being born each minute. The kitchen will be big enough to cook an ox in, able to make feasts, yet somehow still comfortable.

Some days there will be a staff, some days an entire household, some days only a cook, or a maid, or a librarian. Some days the house itself will provide, food appearing on tables and rooms cleaning themselves, animated furniture and the sense that every time we smile, the house is smiling too.

There will be waterfalls, secret caves, huge meadows and deep, quiet forests. There will be hollow trees and tree-houses, flowers that bloom taller than we stand, flowers so small but so plentiful that the entire ground seems carpeted in color and a wonderful fragrance drifts up as we walk through. There will be a garden, parts of it orderly, parts of it wild, even a hedge maze and rows of vegetables and herbs, an apple tree and a cherry tree with branches just low enough to climb up on, and a swing hanging from a huge old oak tree.

When it rains we will walk naked through the herbs and flowers.

When it snows we will have snowball fights, and sled down hills, and play tag across the solid ice that covers the river.

When autumn arrives there will be gold and red and copper-brown everywhere, and the house will smell of pie and preserves, and we will have pillow fights in front of the huge window seat that looks out over the back yard and the world beyond.

In the middle of summer you will beat me in a race to the quiet pond that once was part of the river, and we will throw flowers and bread to the ducks.

There will always be music somewhere.

I will fall asleep knowing you are there.

I want to build you a universe...
