Previous - this entry written on February 11, 2004 at 5:22 pm - Next A memory... small boy pressing himself against my hip, eyes closed, clinging as if it was the only thing that would save him from death. Another boy, long hair and a smile, snuggling against my chest, fingernails tracing lightly over my skin. Two others' soft inhale, exhale, breathing sounds, and the certainty that none of us were alone, that the three of us could do anything. Safe. Loved. That moment, that memory... it stretches out forever in my mind. I can pull it up without effort, wrap myself in its warmth, taste the friendship and kinship, know that no matter how my life is at the moment I had that... ...knowing that someday I WILL have it again... Small boys and a futon bed, an open cage, morning light just starting to sneak in the window as we fall asleep. It's not my life I love, exactly. It's the people in it.
