Fangs For The Future

Ok, there's several things that I could talk about when it comes to *duh duh DUMMMM* the Tarot. I could discuss the odd Tarot torture I'd worked up - I should go read through that and re-draft it - or my personal views on the Tarot symbology, or which decks I use, or even why I would consider using a Tarot deck (ask me that one sometime, it makes a great story).

Instead, I'm going to ask if any of you have seen the "Vampire: The Masquerade" card game. Hands up... anyone? Anyone? Ehh, screw you all, I feel like a right geek now. *sheepish* Hey, they weren't MY cards to start with, don't give me that look.

Anyway. When I was going through them, I got the idea to make what I refer to as a Tarot deck. Now it's NOT the normal deck; no major arcana, no minor arcana, different number of cards, unique meanings. It draws exclusively from the cards that represent individual vampires, with a different vampire to represent each card's meaning. Not all THAT original, I know someone did it with Magic cards and I've heard rumors of someone doing a complete 'Tarot' deck out of each color of magic card, plus artifacts - that's what, six Tarot decks? Wow.

But I'm going to write up my Vampire Tarot here, since I just recently re-found the notebook I'd written it in orignally, and don't want to loose it again. I may, if I get all excited and such, go look online and see if I can find pictures of any of these... but if I don't, or can't, ehh. Suffer. *smiles pleasantly*

- The Vampire Tarot -

1) Roxanne, Malkavian - FATE - Roxanne calls upon yin-yang, the balancing force. Knowledge of your fate has the potential to drive you mad; it is beautiful and terrible at the same time. This card is a warning that your path has already been chosen in some sense, through your decisions and the decisions of those around you. Peering too closely, trying to second-guess yourself, can be just as dangerous as blind acceptance... be wary here.

2) Badger, Gangrel - STRENGTH - Badger is the personification of physical strength and physical effort. Like many talents and forces, such strength can be dangerous if it is not controlled; keep in mind that the only one who can control your inner strengths and your physical reality is you yourself. If this card appears in a position that refers to spirituality or religion, the advice is to, for the moment at least, concentrate on the here-and-now instead of the ether.

3) Merrill, Tremere - FEAR - Fear comes to all people at some point; poor Merrill has never found a way to make it leave. The reason for this is that the fear represented in this card is that brought on by internal conflict, often involving guilt or the possibility of some secret being discovered. Be sure your sins will find you out, this card says... and reminds you as well that if you've no sins worth finding out, you've no reason to fear.

4) Constanza, Brujah - POWER - Constanza learned a valuable lesson during her unlife: power should not be sought by ignoring or hurting others. Unfortunately, power corrupts... and even though she has learned that lesson time and time again, she still sometimes forgets, abusing the power she has and hurting those around her. Like many cards, this one is a warning, letting you know that whatever power is coming into play in your life is one to be wary of.

5) Gitane, Gangrel - LOVE - Beauty, faithfulness, trust, and friendship mix in this card, demonstrated in the lovely person of Gitane. Like most Gangrel, she is wild, untamed... but love is a bond that is not easily or willingly broken. This can be a good thing; Wynn, her lover, is strengthened by the depth and fierceness of her devotion, as she in turn is strengthened by his. Take love as it comes, treasure it, and don't be afraid that it will weaken you - true love only makes you stronger.

6) Ignatius, Tremere - DEATH - Shadows and darkness, tempered by light... death, as they say, is an illusion. It is a source of change and upheaval, often painful in the beginning, but just as often it is a source of rebirth. To become a vampire you must, after a fashion, die; Ignatius did, and since that death he has created many other Kindred, he has written and published one of the most famous books of our time, and his latest musical work is still being played by orchestras everywhere. Death did not stop him, merely changed him.

7) Angus, Gangrel - COURAGE - Visible here is a perfect example of courage: defiant, rebellious, standing up for what he believes in and for what he feels is right. It doesn't take courage to agree with the crowd... it DOES take courage to do what Angus does, fighting not only evil but those who simply do no good... politicians, lawyers, all the tools of "The Establishment" that seek to fence him and others like him in. Stand up for yourself, and for those who cannot yet stand for themselves, he advises.

8) Lydia, Tremere - REST - Lydia has set down her burdens and is resting, quietly contemplating the path before her and the journey she has already completed. There is peace here, acceptance... the calm before the storm, if you were. This card suggests that a time of rest is in order, gathering knowledge, thinking, and letting yourself heal and strengthen for the struggles ahead.

9) Gideon, Ventru - OBSTRUCTION - Lawyers. Vampire lawyers. Bloodsucking fiends... but I repeat myself. This card speaks of obsticles from outside, plans and efforts blocked despite your efforts. There is always a way around such blockage, but it may not be quick or simple. Rather than battering yourself against it, spend some time to find out what or who is opposing you, and concentrate on removing the source of the problem.

10) Dieter, Toreador - GREED - In this trembling, grasping figure of a vampire you can see the results of unhealthy desire, obsession over physical posessions, the need to keep up with the Sabbat members down the street. Right now, greed is affecting your life in a negative way; whether it is your greed or that of others is unclear, but likely it is your own. Back off a bit and think - you don't NEED that fifth car, do you?

...that's the first ten. There are a total of 30. If anyone is even remotely interested, I'll post the rest... *smiles*
