Here, Music... C'mere, Music-Music-Music...

This list was requested by a Scotticus, who apparently is amused by my taste in music. It's not quite a winamp playlist 'cause my playlist is usually only a small section of the stuff I listen to... but it IS a fairly comprehensive list of the artists I like and at least one song per artist that I recommend.

And no, it's NOT in order. I'm hunting these down through a good 20+ folders, so you get 'em in the order I find them.

First off, Meg Lee Chin, a techno-ish chica. I recommend 'Heavy Scene', 'London', "Nutopia', 'Bottle', and either version of 'Swallowing You'.

Tricky... kinda punk, kinda ballad, not really anything particular except good. 'Christiansands', 'Hell Is Around The Corner' (done with Portishead), 'Excess', 'Black Steel', and 'Suffocated Love'.

Speaking of Portishead, I strongly suggest you find 'It's A Fire', 'Glory Box', 'Nobody Loves Me', 'Scorn', and 'Wandering Star'. This stuff is generally NOT for the days you're cheerful... it's for the dark days when you want something slow and cruel.

If you're really a techno fan, check out anything done by Darude or DJ Quicksilver, particularly 'Sandstorm' by the former and 'Symphonica' by the latter. You might also want to check out 'God Is A DJ' by Faithless but be careful, it's damned hard to find the actual original or one of the better remixes - if the thing you are downloading is not at least 6-7 minutes in length, it's the wrong one.

On the other paw, if you're more a fan of lyrics and Actual Music, track down the long version of 'I Will Find You' by Clannad or pretty much anything by Enya, Loreena McKennitt, or Heather Alexander. You might also, on the bad days, want to check out 'Mad World' by Gary Jules; it's off the Donnie Darko soundtrack and REALLY kicks ass despite being a bit depressive in quite a few ways.

Marilyn Manson's cover of 'Tainted Love' is hella nifty - if you can, check out the video for it, it's pure camp and really worth watching, particularly when stoned. *grin*

One of those groups I'm STILL stunned no one told me about until a year or so ago is Placebo, with 'Pure Morning', 'Every Me Every You', and 'Nancy Boy' easily topping my list herein. Another recommendation from the same person who got me hooked on Placebo: Rufus Wainwright, specifically his version of 'Hallalujah' as well as 'Cigarettes And Chocolate Milk'.

Geh... writing out descriptions is proving to be a pain, so for at least a minute or ten here I'm just gonna throw recommendations out.

Tatu, Adema, and Karaja (Hunt down 'She Moves' if you can, and nearly any remix of it will do just as well if not better.)

Alanis Morisette did a VERY good thing with a song called 'Still', from the soundtrack to "Dogma" - if you haven't seen that move, and Donnie Darko for that matter, you are deprived and should go watch them at once.

Bjork did an excellent job as well, with a song called 'All Is Full Of Love'. The video for it is also worth tracking down, particularly if you're curious about robot sex. *muchly amused*

Hans Zimmer has done a LOT of soundtrack work, everything from "Gladiator" to "Plunkett And McClain" (which I think I spelled wrong), "Lion King" to "Hunt For Red October". Go, find, listen. MUCH prettiness. If you can, find 'Rain', 'Sorrow', and 'Now We Are Free'. The first is from a Disney movie, "Spirit", and the other two are from "Gladiator".

Inkubus Sukkubus has done a LOT of great stuff, although their witches' chant and 'Dark Mother' are the top ones on my list at the moment. It's a very Goth group, in case you couldn't guess, and their lead has the most amazing voice.

A few from the 'N' group: Natalie Imbruglia (especially 'Torn', 'Wrong Impression', and 'Wishing I Was There'), Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand', Nickelback, Nina Simone, and Nine Inch Nails. You might also, if you're like me, be very interested in New Order and very much NOT an 'N', Voltaire. That last one has created 'Ex-Lover's Lover', 'When You're Evil', 'U.S.S. Make Shit Up' and 'Whorf's Revenge'. *poing*

Ooh... can't forget Jack Off Jill and their delicious song 'Strawberry Gashes'... and the list wouldn't be complete without Sneaker Pimps' songs, specifically 'Bloodsport', '6 Underground' 'Sunday Morning', and 'Spin Spin Sugar'. You might also be quite pleased if you check out Splashdown, particularly 'The Archer', 'Karma Slave', and 'Dig'.

Cruxshadows has a lot of great stuff, my favorites being 'Coming Home' (or 'Going Home', I don't remember which and am too lazy to check) and I am now asking a Ryan (whose CD it is that HAS both of those tracks) what the actual name of the second one is because I am completely blanking on it. Gah.

E Type, Corey Hart (the sunglasses at night song), David Bowie, Dead Can Dance, Deep Blue Something ('Breakfast At Tiffany's), Everclear, and ooh, Leslie Fish, particularly 'Curse Of The Drinking Class.

If you're looking for something good to listen to in the morning before work I can't recommend 'Chemical Workers' Song' by Great Big Sea strongly enough.

Gah. Tired fingers, tired brain... Scott, this is as much as I'm willing to type up right now, but I'll post more as I remember it, find it, and/or am willing to type it. *wry grin*

Oh, and in case I hadn't mentioned it recently, OHP is f'ing EVIL just at the moment. Stupid confused bureucrats. Which I've also spelled wrong.

One of these days I'm gonna have to spend some time reading the thesaurus again.
