Paranoia, Anyone?

That sense that there's something waiting. Something looming. That perhaps you've forgotten some major appointment or something that was planned... or the feeling you get five minutes before an earthquake...

There's this prickle in the back of your subconscious, and you catch yourself eyeing the door, the clock, putting your purse where you can find it easily and trying to rush through everything, getting ready for... what?

You don't know.

You have no idea.

Half the time you're not even aware that you seem to be preparing... and yet you are. If you were pregnant, it might be called a nesting instinct. If you were psychic... well, at least then you might know WHY you feel about to graduate, about to cum, about to die.

It's a really good way to become even more paranoid than you already are, paying attention to this feeling. And you can't ignore it either, because there's always that one time that sticks in your memory, that time that you were right... and so now you have to take into account the possibility (the certainty, says your subconscious smugly) that something is About To Happen.

And so you wait.

You watch the world going by, trying to puzzle this all out.

More often than not, nothing happens... you go through your day, go to bed, and wake up in the morning feeling fit as a fiddle, no more worries, or at least not that one.

But...

Sometimes...

Sometimes, you get to watch the universe explode.
