Previous - this entry written on January 28, 2006 at 2:19 am - Next Torian: Some kind of bird landed on the AC engine outside my window and started making these WEIRD AS HELL sounds, it was hilarious. First it sounded like it was a regular bird, then it sounded as if it was burping, I nearly fell off the chair laughing. Me: *blinks, boggles* ...as you likely know, the Burping Swallows are only seen during this time of year - the rest of the year they migrate to colder climates and give birth to young, all of whom are born hiccoughing and only stop hiccoughing when they learn to burp, at around three months after hatching. Burping Swallows are often mistaken for their cousins, Burping Falcons, when heard but not seen. Size, of course, gives away the species immediately when they are seen... also Burping Falcons are well-known for wearing brightly-colored bibs in case a burp turns into an upchuck.
